 Dear Cleveland Hill UFSD Employees and Community Members, 

 On behalf of the Board of Education, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. David Evans as our new superintendent of schools. His deep understanding of Cleveland Hill’s culture, values, and educational priorities makes him uniquely qualified to take on this pivotal role. We are confident that his continued leadership will greatly benefit our district.

Mr. Evans will fill the position on July 1, 2025, following the retirement of Mr. Jon MacSwan. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Mr. Evans has held various significant positions within Cleveland Hill UFSD. Most recently, he served as assistant superintendent. Prior to this, he was the director of special education. His professional journey also includes 10 years of experience as a speech pathologist for Cleveland Hill UFSD, East Aurora UFSD, and various private businesses.

He has an impressive educational background, including degrees in speech pathology and education administration from Buffalo State University and the State University of New York at Oswego. Mr. Evans holds multiple New York State professional certifications, including school district leader, school building leader, teacher of the speech and hearing handicapped, and a New York State license in speech pathology.

We look forward to his leadership and vision in continuing to foster a dynamic and inclusive educational environment for our community. His clear vision for the future of our schools positions him to guide us forward with purpose and integrity. The Board of Education anticipates a smooth transition and is excited about the future under Mr. Evans’ leadership.

 Dear Cleveland Hill UFSD Employees and Community Members, 

 I am writing to provide you with an update regarding the selection of a new Superintendent of Schools by the Board of Education. 

As you are aware, the Board has appointed Dr. Michael Capuana, the District Superintendent/CEO of Erie 1 BOCES, to facilitate the process of identifying and appointing a new Superintendent for Cleveland Hill Union Free School District (UFSD). We are pleased to share that our initial search planning process has concluded, and an active search has begun.  

A pivotal aspect of this search entails gathering feedback and perspectives from the Cleveland Hill educational community. This will include employees, parents, students, and community members, regarding the District's needs and the desirable qualities of the next Superintendent. Your insights will significantly contribute to the Board's decision-making process. In addition to holding numerous in-person community focus group sessions and facilitating a search advisory committee, we also have a digital option to gather your input.

 To facilitate this digital feedback collection, we have launched a community survey on the school website utilizing the ThoughtExchange communication tool. This survey will be accessible until February 24, 2025, and we encourage all community members to share their thoughts on the characteristics and qualities they envision in the next Superintendent. You can find the survey link, along with a vacancy brochure, timeline, and application on the Superintendent Search page on our website.

We anticipate extending an offer to the successful candidate in April 2025, with the new Superintendent expected to begin in the Cleveland Hill UFSD in July 2025.

Dear Cleveland Hill UFSD Employees and Community Members, 

 As you are aware, Mr. Jon MacSwan has announced his retirement after 14 years of exceptional service and leadership. As we celebrate his many contributions, the Board must also begin the process of selecting a new Superintendent of Schools.

 Effective January 22, 2025, the Board appointed Dr. Michael Capuana, the District Superintendent of Erie 1 BOCES, to facilitate the search process for the Board’s appointment of a Superintendent of Schools for
Cleveland Hill. Dr. Capuana will work closely with our Board and community to employ a thorough selection process.

 Once we hold the preliminary planning meetings with Dr. Capuana, we will provide more details about the superintendent search process and timeline. Rest assured; stakeholder input will play a crucial role in guiding the Board's decision-making process. 

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Jon MacSwan for his many years of unwavering dedication and
visionary leadership. We also thank you, our staff and community, for your invaluable assistance and understanding throughout this forthcoming search process.

Dear Cleveland Hill Family,

It is with a mix of emotions – excitement and a touch of sadness – that I announce my retirement as the Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2025.

For the past 14 years, it has been an absolute honor to serve as your Superintendent. I have witnessed firsthand the incredible dedication and passion of our teachers, staff, and administrators, and I am continually inspired by the hard work and achievements of our students.

Together, we have accomplished remarkable things. We've implemented innovative programs that have enhanced learning opportunities for our students, fostered a positive and inclusive school climate, and significantly improved our district's academic performance. I am incredibly proud of our collective accomplishments, from our initial rollout of Project Achieve well over a decade ago, to the implementation of our new Strategic Plan last year.  Many names and faces have changed over the years, but the core of what makes Cleveland Hill such a special place to live, learn and work - has and will remain constant.  And that, my friends, is a testament to each and everyone of you!

The Cleveland Hill family will forever hold a special place in my heart. The relationships I have built with each of you – students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members – have been the most rewarding aspect of my career. Your support, your encouragement, and your unwavering commitment to our students have made this a truly incredible journey.

While I am excited to embark on this new chapter in my life, I am confident that the best years for the Cleveland Hill School District are still ahead. I have full faith in the talented and dedicated individuals who will continue to guide our district towards continued success.

That said, together, we still have some vitally important work to accomplish this year, and my commitment to our students, community, and each of you will never waver. I look forward to continuing our work together in the coming months.

Thank you for the privilege of serving alongside you. I will cherish the memories and friendships I have made during my time here, and I will never forget, “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle.”
